Changxing Crane Daily Maintenance – Essential Tips for Our Customers

Nine Key Maintenance Points for Changxing Cranes
1. Lubrication (Greasing All Key Points)
Apply grease to the following locations:
- The friction surfaces of the four outrigger lower slide blocks and the inner/outer cavity connections of each outrigger.
- All crane pin shafts, including the luffing upper and lower pins, the main boom rear pin, and the telescopic boom pins on folding-arm cranes.
- The inner cavity of the slewing bearing and the gear mesh between the slewing bearing and the slewing gearbox.
- The upper and lower slide blocks of each telescopic boom section and the entire boom tube interior.
- The hook bearing position.
Recommended frequency: every two weeks.
2. Bolt Inspection
Check all bolts for looseness, paying special attention to:
- The bolts connecting the column flange to the slewing bearing.
- The bolts connecting the slewing bearing to the frame (inspection holes are provided on the column flange for this purpose).
These two sets of bolts bear the combined load of the lifted cargo and the crane's own boom weight — they are absolutely critical. If any looseness is found, tighten immediately. Also check the locking bolts on all pin shafts.
Recommended frequency: before every operation.
3. Wire Rope Inspection and Lubrication
Keep the surfaces of the telescopic boom wire ropes and the winch wire ropes smooth and clean. Apply lubricating oil periodically — the interval depends on the condition of the ropes. If any broken strands, fraying, or other abnormalities are found, replace the wire rope immediately. The telescopic wire ropes on the main boom should be checked regularly for proper tension, as loose ropes will cause boom vibration.
4. Gear Oil Replacement – Slewing Gearbox and Winch
The winch uses a single port for both adding and draining gear oil. The slewing gearbox has two or three ports: the upper one or two are fill ports, and the lower one is the drain port.
- Remove the drain plug and drain the old gear oil completely.
- Reinstall the drain plug.
- Add fresh gear oil through the fill port: approximately 0.6–0.8 L for cranes under 8T; approximately 1.2–1.5 L for cranes 12T and above.
Recommended frequency: every 3 months. The breather vents on the winch motor and slewing gearbox motor should be loosened to release pressure every 3–6 months — always perform this on a cold machine to avoid accidents.
5. Hydraulic Oil and Filter Maintenance
The hydraulic system operates under high-pressure conditions. Before use, inspect all hydraulic connections for looseness, including: hoses, cylinders, hydraulic control valves, the central swivel joint (distributor), oil tank, and hydraulic pump.
Keep the hydraulic oil clean at all times. If the oil shows signs of emulsification, contamination, or blackening, replace it immediately.
- Full hydraulic oil replacement: every 6 months.
- The return oil filter element on top of the hydraulic tank and the high-pressure filter element must be inspected regularly and kept free of blockages — clogging will cause sluggish operation and system faults.
- Filter element replacement or cleaning: every 6 months.
6. Lifting Operation Guidelines
- Always strictly follow the crane's rated capacity chart and boom angle chart. Never exceed the rated load under any circumstances.
- The boom must be raised to at least 30° before beginning any lifting operation.
- For standard straight-arm cranes (except folding-arm cranes and first-section single-extension models), telescoping the boom under load is strictly prohibited. Only first-section single-extension straight-arm cranes are permitted to telescope the first section under load.
7. Wire Rope Reeving and Lifting Posture
- Do not modify the wire rope reeving ratio (e.g., changing from 6-part to 4-part line) without authorization.
- The hook must remain directly vertical above the load at all times. Side-pulling or angled lifting is strictly prohibited.
- If the crane struggles during a lift, never force the operation by applying excessive throttle. Stop, assess, and adjust the load or configuration.
8. Stable Operation Practices
- Deploy all four outriggers to approximately equal height before operation. Do not rely solely on the outriggers to bear the full weight of the chassis and cargo — the chassis tires and outriggers must work together to provide support.
- All movements — boom raise/lower, telescoping, slewing, and winch operation — must be performed smoothly. Avoid sudden starts and stops, especially during slewing, as abrupt movements are both unsafe and damaging to the crane.
9. Travel Safety Locks
- Before driving, insert the anti-rotation locking pin on the column flange and engage the mechanical locks on all four outriggers.
- Remove the locking pin before starting crane operations, and re-engage all locks after completing work.
- These steps are essential for safe road travel.
